Morzine is a picturesque Alpine town, lying in the heart of the vast Portes du Soleil ski area near the French/Swiss border and is only an hour’s drive from Geneva airport. The town itself offers a mixture of traditional and modern shops, bars and restaurants whilst maintaining it’s genuine Savoyarde charm and atmosphere.
The old town with it’s weekly market, town square, old bridge and beautiful architecture, situated on the river Dranse has a charm not found in other purpose built ski resorts. For non-skiers there is ice skating, cinemas showing films in English, chic bars and restaurants and a play park, horse drawn sleigh rides & a mini-train ride across town for children.
Situated about an hour and a half from Geneva, Morzine is the main areas of the French side of the Portes du Soleil area. Morzine was originally a small Alpine farming village and it has continued to develop into a modern town whilst maintaining its village feel and sense of tradition.
Morzine has an extensive local area of slopes which it shares with its smaller neighbor Les Gets. The local lift pass gives you access to the Morzine and Les Gets ski area and is accessed by the new and improved Pleney gondola. It’s well worth heading over to the Point Du Nyon for views of Mont Blanc and if you keep going to Les Gets you will find the hidden gem that is Mont Chery. If you are feeling a bit more adventurous it is worth upgrading your lift pass to include the whole of the Portes du Soleil. You can then take the Super Morzine gondola to (and back from as there is no piste alternative) Avoriaz and onto Switzerland taking in resorts such as Les Crosets and Champoussinand. This is a fantastic ski area, and well worth considering for those who like to cover large ski areas.
Morzine is the largest settlement of Les Portes du Soleil, and is home to approximately 3000 residents. Although it is situated at a relatively low 900 metres, a network of lifts
reaches the panoramic Chamossière at 1800 metres and Avoriaz at 2100 metres. It is accessible using the lift system, or is a 20 minute car ride away. Free shuttles now connect the centre of Morzine with all the lift systems.

What we love
Short Transfer from Geneva
When the snow is good, the resort skiing is excellent
proximity to the biggest winter playground in the Alps, the Portes du Soleil.
Lively and traditional town
Excellent ski schools
What needs improving
It would be awesome to raise the resort but that’s slightly tricky..
Beginning and end of the season can be tricky if the snow has not fallen for a while.
its still quite pricy compared to some resorts
Morzine is a no hassel resort. Regional flights from any major UK airport will fly you into Geneva which is just 1hr 15min from Geneva by car. Helicopter transfers are also available from Geneva and the flight is approximately 30min. Please note that helicopters are weather permitting.
